The QEC launched its tenth annual Queensland Exploration Scorecard on 10th December. Due to Covid-19, the launch event was virtual but was preceded by a boardroom pre-launch lunch attended by 35 guests in Brisbane.

The event highlighted the contribution of the exploration sector to the Queensland economy. The event was dressed by Minister for Resources, Scott Stewart and industry experts, Euan Morton, Chair – QEC Scorecard Working Group, Peter Hall – CEO, Australian Drilling Industry Association, Tony Knight – Chief Government Geologist- Department of Resources, Todd Harrington Project Director Whitehaven Coal and Stephen Kelemen Deputy QEC Chair for Petroleum.

Across the board, the views recorded by contributors to the scorecard were positive. Despite COVID-19, exploration activity across coal, petroleum, gold and copper has increased since last year and over half of explorers expect to increase activity or expenditure over the next 12 months. This is testament to the resilience of the sector.
